Parasitic wasps, dating back 99 mn yrs, found preserved in amber in Myanmar
- An extinct species of parasitic wasp dating back nearly 99 million years was discovered preserved in amber in Myanmar, according to study published in BMC Biology. The wasps had bristly, paddle-shaped flaps on bottom of their abdomen, resembling a Venus flytrap. This structure helped inject eggs into living hosts, where larvae later lived as parasites, feeding inside the host’s body.
